If you experience radio noise after installing your MSD unit, then you may need to install MSD noise filters. With these in place, the unit will draw current through the noise filter instead of from the battery, so the unit will not affect any of your 12 V or 16 V accessories. These filters come complete with a cover and a mounting bracket.

Questions & Answers Ask a Product Question
Q:

Hi! I have radio noise due to an MSD HEI distributor but I don't have an ignition box like the 6AL or anything...can this still work? How would I plug the noise filter? Thanks

Asked by ETIENNE on May 07, 2017

A:

all it does is filter the positive and negative wires from the distributor. I am beginning to use it all all of my restoration and race situations.
You may also try some shielded spark plug wires that help to reduce RF and also see if your radio wires run near the distributor, assuming its a chevy.

Q:

I have installed a 6A box and Atomic EFI. My little 400 also has dual electric fans. With one fan running I'm seeing 13.8 Volts out of my 100 Amp alternator. But, when the second fan turns on, I see a drop to 12 Volts and it returns to about 13.6 Volts. During that period I sometimes get a stumble out of the motor, Voltage drop/spike. Would the 8830 noise filter/ surge suppressor help out with this issue? I was thinking of install it on the power feed lines to both the ^A box and the Atomic controller.

Asked by DON on August 27, 2018

A:

No, if the problem is only at idle you can try putting a smaller pulley on your alternator or over drive pulley on your crank or a higher amp alternator such as a 140amp. The noise filter is to filter out back round noise for a radio.
