Q:

Is 598 safe to use with 2190 synthetic turbine oil?

Asked by WILLIAM on November 10, 2017

A:

I am a retired millwright who worked on gas, hydro, and fossil-fueled, turbines, we used many different versions of silicone based sealers and they functioned well, I use it where synthetic oil, is present, and trust it to work well, but the specific oil you mention might be answered by its MDS sheet. You might also check with Loctite, that information should be free from them.

Works great on air intake manifold. A good thick bead makes for a good gasket seal.I would recommend to anyone who has a leak.

Pretty sure Permatex makes this rtv for locktite. This is a quality rtv. As long as surface is brake cleaned to remove any oil residue--should last life of engine.

This stuff is easy to apply, and holds like a gorilla onto his last banana. If you have a leak while using this stuff, you did it wrong.

There Is A BIG Reason Loctite RTV Is Better

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

LCT-37467
I've used Permatex RTV ever since they started selling it. That was long before cars had O2 sensors. I continue using Permatex Ultra due to lower cost, availability, and it being a good product - but only on engines without O2 sensors. Loctite RTV is rated O2 sensor safe, and it performs just as well as Permatex Ultra in use. Not using an RTV sealant rated O2 sensor safe on an engine is a good way to quickly poison and ruin a good O2 sensor on engines running them - and you won't know it until the performance you previously had is gone. Since my modified FAST fuel injected rides all use expensive heated wideband O2 sensors, Loctite RTV is mandatory for use on them. I also use it on all factory vehicles using O2 sensors - which comprises most everything built today. It doesn't pay to take chances with an RTV sealant making an expensive O2 sensor toast. ...read more
