Questions & Answers Ask a Product Question

HI! Is the extinguishing agent corrosive? Will it harm anything under the hood of my race car including the fiberglass front end? THAMKS!

Asked by CHRISTOPHE on December 30, 2017

Hello Christophe!

Yes, the agent in MX250R is indeed corrosive. This model is charged with a specially fluidized and siliconized monoammonium phosphate dry chemical and while it’s an excellent multi-purpose ABC fire suppressant, it requires cleaning as it will corrode metal and electronic components.

If you’re looking for a clean agent extinguisher, please see our HalGuard model HG250R While HalGuard extinguishers don’t require any clean-up, sizes below 11 lb. are not rated for class A fires (ordinary combustibles such as wood, paper, cloth, trash, and plastics). The HG250R is rated for class B fires such as gasoline, oil and paint.

Both MaxOut and HalGuard extinguishers are safe for energized electrical equipment (class C) fires.

Hello Jeffrey,

It is our understanding that NHRA requires a “quick-release” system and our standard two-strap brackets (included) do not meet their requirement.

We have the following NHRA-accepted quick-release brackets available:

Answer This Question

How long will the extinguisher last if not used? What's it's shelf life?

Asked by RYAN on February 10, 2018

Hello Ryan,

It’s hard to say for how long any given extinguisher would last. Certain environmental factors may affect its life. Exposure to corrosive conditions and extremely cold or hot temperatures may cause premature wear on the rubber seals. Please keep your extinguisher maintained in accordance with the Owner’s Manual to ensure it stays in working order.

Our extinguishers have a 6-year shelf life as per “NFPA 10: Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers” a maintenance service must to be performed by a licensed fire service company at 6 years from the date of manufacture.
