Hooker Competition Headers

Hooker Competition headers are designed for stock or mildly modified engines for the value-conscious buyer. Made from durable 16-gauge steel, Competition headers feature 5/16 in. thick flanges that are heavy enough to maintain header integrity, yet pliable enough to seal each exhaust port. Unless otherwise noted, these headers are designed to fit the vehicle as it came from the manufacturer. This includes components like cylinder heads, chassis, steering, motor mounts, body mounts and bushings, etc. If your vehicle is using aftermarket components, parts from other applications, or custom altered parts, then it is the installer's responsibility to verify fitment.

Q:

The description says the coating is temporary. Does this mean i need to strip these or can i just scuff and paint the existing paint?

Asked by BRIAN on 8/27/2017

I didn't on mine because nobody is really going to see them unless it's a show pickup then you can

The best way to do it would be to sandblast first or put them on the application and let them burn out themselves it won't take probably about 100 to 200 miles

I asked this exact question on Hookers Tech Line. The answer is "NO, You cannot paint over this temp coating as it will bubble under your paint. The temp paint must be stripped or sanded or sandblasted before applying any additional paint....Its off to the sanding booth for me..

Best to just get them sand blasted. The existing paint will burn off. You can strip the paint but I found it very time consuming and getting them blasted will set you back about as much as buying the stripper.

Best bet would be to strip it, no need to take chances and you can media blast it pretty cheap at a local mechanics shop. Then it'll already be scuffed for you to paint

I put my headers on a stock 350 in my 86 GMC Sierra. They fit perfectly. When I purchased them the description said they will not fit angle plug heads. Also the gaskets were horrible I suggest buying a better set of felpro gaskets

No they wouldn't. These headers aren't designed for angle plug heads. They will fit any typical small block Chevy or Vortec head though.

When I took these headers out of the box I knew that I had made the right choice. They are much heavier gauge steel then the "no name" headers that they were replacing. The routing of the pipes makes for an excellent fit, and spark plug access is better than most headers that I have used.I would buy these again.

As always with summit fast shipping and great customer service. Bought these hooker headers to replace a cheap set I had on my suburban and headers are definitely one of those things you get what you pay for. I wish I would’ve bought these the first time around, perfect fit, amazing quality, and great sound
