Answer This Question

Q:

I have a 69 C10 2WD and plan on installing an LQ9 engine in it. I need to know which version of Holley Oil pan to use. I want to utilize the 302-1 as I want to have as much forward/rear travel as possible to compensate for a T56 trans install and a porterbuilt inner frame stiffener. I am concerned that with the 302-1 the pan will hit the steering link though. The 302-2 provides additional room for the steering link but sacrifices a few inches of possible forward movement of the engine where the k member/oil pan bottom would come together. Can you provide any insight into this for me?

Asked by ROBERT on November 27, 2017

A:

Hi there, sounds like a good swap going on. I have a 54' Chevy 3100 1/2 ton with a 5.3 LM7 motor and 4L80E tranny. I haven't installed it yet so I can't answer all your questions. The motor/tranny are installed now with the independent front suspension and coilovers. The reason I got the 302 is because I have that suv pan which is way lower. It is considerable shallower than what is on now which is what I want since I plan to go with air bags. The 302-2 was designed for that reason that people were having issues with it hitting steering components. I'd say go 302-2 but I'd also maybe look at Truck forums and ask people who have done it on that truck already. I have seen multiple people do it also. Good luck.
