Answer This Question

Q:

Can this be mounted in the engine bay? Does it have to be below the tank level?

Asked by MARCUS on June 14, 2017

A:

Thank you for your question. Holley 12-801-1 cannot be mounted in the engine bay. It needs to be mounted as close to the tank as possible and it must be mounted below the tank for proper operation. This pump needs to have fuel gravity fed to it to keep it from burning up. It is meant to push fuel, not suck fuel.

Is this pump gravity fed and have to be mounted lower than the fuel tank, or self priming?

Thank you for your question. Most electric fuel pumps, including Holley 12-801-1 are gravity fed and require mounting below the fuel tank.

Answer This Question

Q:

I have an red holley pump on my truck. It was old along with the fuel cell so I replaced them both.On my old pump I installed a plug on the wires for easy install.I installed the new pump(the same red pump # 12-801-1)and pluged it in.When I backed it off the lift it ran out of gas.I then realized the pump was running backwards. My question is did this hurt the pump ?and why was it wired different.Since this I have had a black type debris in my fuel filters.Thank you...........LWB

Asked by LES on January 11, 2018

A:

I dought you hurt the pump. Do you have the slosh mat in the new fuel cell? I got black stuff in my filter for a while after installing a cell with that in it.it will go away. But that mat will brake down over time. I pulled mine out. Hope this helps.
