Flex-A-Lite Variable Speed Controllers

Flex-A-Lite variable speed controllers attach on or near the electric fan, sensing coolant temperature via a radiator probe or temperature sending unit. They set fan speed from 60 to 100 percent, depending on the built-in thermostat's setting. The thermostats have a range of 160 to 220 degrees F. The variable speed controllers allow greater control over engine temperature, which helps to reduce charging spikes and current load on the charging system. They will keep the fans running for 30 seconds after your vehicle is turned off.

Q:

I have a dual fan set up, each fan is rated at a 18.7 amp draw equaling 37.4 amps for both, will this controller be able to power both fans without overheating? I know the description says rated at 45 amps but I need to be sure.

That is why I paid the high price for this. I am going to run a dual fan set up on a 2nd gen. F-150. This is very heavy duty. I don't foresee any problems. Good luck

Will this vsc work with the flexlite 272 dual fan shroud?

Yes it should. As long as you're not trying to use it with existing fan electronics made for the vehicle. As a stand alone controller we've used this product on multiple stock (bypassing the stock control system) and aftermarket applications regardless of fan manufacturer. Need to stay in the load range of the controller to run the fans correctly.

What the difference with the other kids that look the same I e. 31163 and 31174?

31163 has screw in temp sensor, 31174 has a sensor that goes in the radiator fins.

I installed a high performance Spal fan, which necessitated I get a high amperage fan controller. After installing and uninstalling two Brand D controllers, both of which were DOA, I ordered this controller. I wired it up according to instructions and guess what? It worked just like it was supposed to! Shazam! I like the soft start option, too. The unit is completely potted, so water should not be a concern. Hopefully, this unit lasts a long time.

Clear instructions and an easy enough installation. I've only had the fan control a month but it works as it should. I'm convinced that you get what you pay for because of troubles I had with less expensive units failing for no apparent reasons.The control has LED lights for different operations which I feel are very helpful to verify control functions.

Used this unit to replace one from another vendor that failed. Installation was straight forward, parts are good quality, only minor adjustment to set temp. With the 60% power at the set point and when the A/C override is engaged my dual fans are much quieter. It's not as good looking as some other brands, but it's small enough to be tucked away. Status lights are a good features, takes away the mystery. On the down side, the wrong instructions were in the box, but the correct instructions are on-line, so not a big deal.

Fan controller is very easy to install just by simply looking at the diagram provided. Even being scared to death of wiring, I managed to get it in and working first try. Wiring is all very heavy gauge with thick insulation. I installed the controller near the radiator to cut down on wiring length, perhaps not the best spot, but in the few weeks its been installed it has worked perfectly. The LED lights are helpful when making sure its actually getting signal from the AC clutch wire when they kick on as opposed to just turning on due to the temp. The soft start type feature where the fans run at 60% power untill more cooling is needed is fantastic. My large fans are much quieter, and the shock to the electrical system is almost eliminated all together. It has only been a few weeks, and the truck is not my daily driver, but so far so good. Would recommend this product if you have the cash!
