Ask a Product Question
Q:

will this require clearancing if i'm going from a .039 to this 0.0260?

Asked by EARL on April 07, 2017

A:

I'm assuming the engine you are considering installing these head gaskets into is a Street Strip type engine that is most likely running a Flat Top or even a Dished Piston application and a really easy way to confirm this is if you are able to operate your engine on pump gas and if that's the case the .013 difference in head gasket thickness isn't really enough to cause you any problems simply because a pump gasoline type engine would never be running clearances that would be that tight to begin with and you also need to keep in mind that .013 of an inch is only the thickness of 3 pieces of binder paper so thats all we are talking about here but if you have a race only type engine with large domed Pistons and a camshaft that has a lift greater then .600 of an inch then you really want to keep an eye on your Piston to cylinder head and Piston to exhaust valve clearances I personally used this same .026 thick head gasket in a Race only engine application that had a tiny 49 cc chamberd cylinder head with a 3cc domed Piston with a .630 inch lift camshaft in a zero deck height block and I still had plenty of clearance when I check them and a street strip type engine would never be using these more extreme race only application components inside of it so you really should have no problem at all and I'm very comfortable telling you to go ahead and install this set of head gaskets in your engine and try it out you will most likely have to go to the next higher octane numbered gasoline because of the small increase you will be seeing in your nominal static compression ratio number and if you are already running your engine on pump gasoline you still Will be able to operate engine on pump gasoline without any added problems so Good luck on your project and have fun and just remember to always consider contacting Summit Racing first because they always are able to meet your performance needs !

A:

could not use them the bore diameter was too small for the AFR heads that I bought. But have used in past and they were fine. thin to give me compression.

Answer This Question

Q:

going back and forth between these and the normal 1142 felpro gasket. the 1142 says it works with a 1985 chevy 305 but this one doesnt and the only differences i see are compressed thickness/compressed volume. will these work on a chevy 305 from 1985

Asked by MATTHEW on February 24, 2019

A:

Either 1142 or 1142-026 will work. These both have a 4.100" gasket bore.

Q:

Is these good gaskets good for cast iron heads, spraying 250 ?

Asked by JAMES on October 29, 2018

A:

Yes, you can use this gasket. Make sure you have an RA finish on the head and block of at least 60RA. We prefer it lower at 30RA.
