Answer This Question

Q:

I have a customer who put a dana 44 out of a 2000 Honda Passport in his old Jeep and now wants to purchase a locker for it. after reference I found this part number for the Detroit for a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo and if I recall they use the same rear diff. Can you please check fitment for me.

Asked by WILLIAM on March 08, 2016

A:

the passport and rodeo used the same rear axles which are is dana 44 From at least 1994. From 94-97 the axle is primarily the same as all other 44's. In 98-till end of production it changed some. They used the same carrier for all the year which is the 3.93 and down and uses a thick cut ring gear to make up the difference. now the problems comes, in 1998 they made it a hybrid type of axle, what they did was beef up the pinion size to the size of a dana 60. So yes the locket will work in the axle but not with the factory gearing. independent4x is the only company I know of that make a ring and pinion for that axle. hope this helps some.

I've used several of these in strictly offroad vehicles and all have been flawless. From a GM Corporate 14 bolt to a Dana 44, they are tough as nails. I recommend these to anyone that wants to get serious offroad and wants to do it right the first time.
