Cometic MLS head gaskets are constructed from multiple layers of stainless steel for strength and contain load-controlled embossments that conform load distribution across the sealing area. This creates an exceptional seal by requiring less clamp load--resulting in less bore distortion. The stainless steel outer layers utilizing FKM (Viton®) rubber coating, a high-temperature and chemical-resistant polymer. A topcoat of PTFE aids in resistance to fret and increased cold sealing. MLS head gaskets are available for most aftermarket cylinder heads; as with all of Cometic's MLS head gaskets, no sealants or re-torque is required.

Questions & Answers Ask a Product Question

Is this head gasket offered for a 4.030 bore.

Asked by LEONARD on December 14, 2017

Thank you for your question. The closest one for a 4.030 in. bore is the 0.036 in. thick Cometic CGT-C5399-036. There are two other thinner Cometics, but they are designed for Brodix Heads specifically.

Is this gasket good for trickflow super 23 72cc heads on sbc 385 stoker w/ 10.2 compression?
Also if there a set better recommended what is the part number?

Asked by TIMOTHY on January 04, 2019

I've never heard of a Cometic Head Gasket getting blown out. If want anted Maximum head and block compression seal, you might want to research copper head gaskets. I have also heard that Graphite head gaskets are quite excellent as well but no experience personally.

I have a SBC 400 with 12:1 compression pistons, Is the the correct gasket for my motor? I used regular head gaskets when i put this motor together and now i have a blown gasket, with oil in the radiator and over heating. thanks for your time.

Asked by GARY on April 21, 2018

I tried these gaskets on a SBC 400 motor. They do have steam holes. I would not recommend them unless you have had your block and heads specially machined with the extra smooth surface required for MLS gaskets. My block and heads had standard machining and they would not seal with these gaskets. I switched back to standard gaskets and they sealed fine.
