Answer This Question

Q:

Will this transmission work with 96 impala. I really want to get away from the 4L60E. Additionally, what advantages does the 80 have over the 60. Thanks for your assistance.

Asked by BYRON on January 30, 2019

A:

Byron. You will want the 118001. That trans is meant for 93-96 model years
Check Impalaforums.com for info on what is needed to swap the trans from a 4L60e to an 4L80e. It may be as simple as a reprogram or computer change.

As far as advantages, a 4L80e is much stronger and will handle more torque. If you plan any engine upgrades that involve big power, you may want to look into swapping the trans.

Hope this helps.
