ARP High Performance series head bolt kits are tough. They are rated at 180,000 psi--15 percent stronger than Grade 8 fasteners. They come available with a reduced wrenching hex head or 12-point head that help eliminate the need for valvetrain removal when re-torquing cylinder heads.

Questions & Answers Ask a Product Question
Q:

Will these work with a 383 that close to the 600 hp/ 600 ft.lbs. mark? Or should I upgrade to studs?

Asked by SEAN on September 06, 2017

A:

I believe I would upgrade to studs because of the horsepower

Answer This Question

Q:

I have 1996 chevy tahoe 350 vortec stock heads...now do I use these bolts with the washer that came with it or with out washers

Asked by FERAS on November 16, 2017

A:

Using the washers “equalizes” the torque of the nut on the stud for a consistent stretch of the stud. You can get away with not using a washer sometimes in clearance situations like under an exhaust manifold runner but you should use them on every location that will allow.

If I need good bolts for an engine build, I look no further than ARP. While I didn't need anything over the top (like head studs) for my new daily driver engine, these fit the bill just fine. A little higher cost than maybe an auto parts store, but you get what you pay for. There's no rocket science here. The bolts are the right length, they come with washers, and ARP even includes a little packet of their own "Assembly Lubricant" which they recommend using to reproduce consistent torque specs against washers and on threads. Buyers may also want to use ARP thread sealant (Part # ARP-100-9904) on the threads, as many of the bolts enter water jackets on the block. Also, be sure to clean the bolts with alcohol, contact cleaner, or similar, first. They are packaged in light oil to prevent rusting. ...read more

The best bolts on the market, always fit and never breaks. Half inch head makes torqueing with 1.550 springs a piece of cake, unlike other sets with 5/8 head. ...read more
