Is this muffler the equivalent to a Flow master 40 series? Does it sound like the 40?

Thank you for your question. The Summit 638222 muffler is a two-chamber muffler like the Flowmaster 40, Thrush, or Jones mufflers with similar construction. The sound is similar between all of these choices.

Is this muffler 2.5 ID or OD ?

2.5"ID (Inside Diameter of inlet and outlet tubing). I have this muffler sitting, new in box, in my garage and had to go measure to be sure after reading the other reply that said it was 2.5"OD (it is not). 100% it is ID.

Unbelievable Great product for the price compared to Flowmaster's price. I used these to replace a Set of Flowmasters on a 1978 Corvette with true duels exhaust. Deep sound and good choppy note with my 3/4 race cam. Does not resonate or give you that Tone headache you get from Flowmaster. Awesome and will by more for my 70 Charger.

This is a FM40 style muffler and it is loud but it sounds pretty good. The painted finish on the muffler was a surprise and should help it survive a little longer. Plus it looks good. On my 350 second gen Camaro, it drones with tailpipes but not with dumps. Your results may vary.
