Are the studs screw in or pressed

Asked by DENNIS on May 13, 2019

Screw in. They are used to position the pushrod guide plates.

will these work on a block that has a bore of 4.060 will the .060 extra mess anything up?

Asked by PHYLLIS on April 11, 2017

There are other factors to take into consideration, but the extra .060 should not make any difference when using these heads. If you are using dome pistons, that might be a problem, as I understand that vortec type heads are not compatible with dome pistons. Also, these heads are not compatible with self aligning rockers.

I'm looking for aluminum heads for my 1997 5.7 vortec, will these heads fit the l31 block? and how much horsepower can i expect to gain by bolting these heads on. thanks

Asked by ABDULLA on September 16, 2018

The 190cc vortec heads will bolt-on to your L31 block, however you will need to replace your intake manifold as your current heads have a different intake bolt pattern (specific to the L31) the heads themselves paired with a good cam, intake manifold and exhaust should increase your HP by at least 50.

Answer This Question

Recommended pushrod lenght?

Asked by DARSHAUN on April 06, 2018

Thank you for your question. When changing cylinder heads like the AFR 912 Vortec 190cc Eliminators pushrod length must be measured due to the variables of your specific engine build. Trick Flow 9000 is the appropriate length checker for a hydraulic roller cam and these heads.

Ease of Installation

Old set ?

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

Nice heads they area as described on web page. Quality looks good. My set must have been sitting around for a while as there is rust on the valves ? (I thought stainless did not rust) The date code on the box is the middle of last year. Does not look like it will affect anything but I will disassemble and completely clean the heads before installing them. I was hoping to have a set to unpackaged and install but not my luck. more
