Avondale Update: January 20
PROGRESS REPORT
Well, we've fired the car up and what a beast! We've got a week's worth of run time on it, and the car is looking, sounding, and performing well. Last week, we did our first set of dyno pulls, and the car turned in some pretty impressive numbers. A little tuning this week and another couple of dyno pulls, and we'll be ready for Houston.

Sorry, you'll have to wait until after race day to find out exactly what the numbers were. Until then, you'll have to take my word for it. All I can say now is, the driver that Factory Five supplies better be good!

We've also put some track time on it to dial things in and put some time on the brakes, etc. So far everyone that's taken it for a spin has ended their ride with a big smile on their face; usually shouting  "OH YEAH!",  "OH MY GOD!" or something of that sort as they wiggled their way out of the tight cockpit.

Race day is going to be a lot of fun...

...'til next time...

AVONDALE HERO OF THE WEEK: JOHN VIZUET
This week's student spotlight shines on John Vizuet, who is one of the early members of the Blue Crew. John is a local boy, born and raised in Phoenix , Arizona, which by the way, is a bit of a rarity around here. But that's a different story.

Anyway, John's been a "car guy" from early on, building and racing go-karts since the age of 12. Now we're not talking about toy carts, we're talking serious racing carts--on the deck, one seat, four wheels, and a small engine putting out some serious horsepower for its size. When you're running at around 50 mph and the bottom of your seat is an inch from the pavement, it's a rush and a half to be sure. From there, John moved on to his first vehicle: a '64 Chevy pickup,. He spent as much time and effort playing with it as a teen's budget would permit and he has been hooked ever since.

John relishes his chance to work on the Avondale. It gives him the opportunity to fulfill his passion for building custom cars and provides experience he can apply towards his dream of one day opening his own performance transmission shop. He's worked hard for the build team and looks forward to telling everyone he knows about his chance to work on Avondale's entry in the competition.

We'll make sure we give him the opportunity to tell some really exciting stories - thanks John for all your help!
