Only worth it if doing one or two studs

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

I bought one of these thinking I could pull all my pressed-in rocker studs (on an SBC) and replace them with screw-in studs. The tool works fine if you only have to do one or two studs; for that, you can deal with the hassles and difficulties. But it's no fun trying to do all 16 with this. First, you'll need a stack -- about 1" -- of washers, because as you extract the stud, you need to stop, take the tool off, put in the washers to shim the tool up, then continue extracting the stud ... until you need more washers. This is tedious. And it presents a problem: you invariably end up stripping the threads on the rocker stud, which makes that stud a bear to remove. I finally figured out that if I bought a bunch of cheapie nuts from the hardware store to use instead of actual rocker arm nuts, I could use each nut exactly one time then had to throw it away. Trying to use a nut more than once caused thread damage to the stud. So I went through about 40-something nuts to remove the sixteen studs ... and still managed to mess up 2 so bad that I had to resort to having a machine shop remove them, which totally negated any savings. So, great for a minor job. Not so good for a big one. ...read more

Rocker arm stud removal tool

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

I purchased this stud removal tool to replace a pulled rocker arm stud and decided to replace all them. This tool made the job easy and with care every replacement screw in stud came out in perfect alignment. I would recommend this stud removal tool to anyone.
