Summit® lightweight Nippondenso-type Protorque starters offer a 4.0:1 gear-reduction ratio and a whopping 1.9 HP. That's 222 ft.-lbs of racecar cranking power. If that's not enough, there are even more powerful 3.1 HP monsters, which are a pound lighter! They have a 4.44:1 reduction ratio and churn out an awesome 342 ft.-lbs. of torque. Both of these powerhouses are suitable for engines up to 502 c.i.d., and compression ratios of up to 18.0:1. GM versions are adjustable for five mounting positions; Ford types, for 18. A gold dichromate finish prevents corrosion and electrical shorts on both.

Fits and works great

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

I bought this to replace a five year old stater that I bought from a local parts house that was having heat soak issues. This starter fit my 67 firebird 400 just fine and works good when the motor is hot. Only time will tell but it is working great now.

Will not fit my 70 350 olds motor

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

I was hoping for the best but not this time. It will not clear my headers on my 1970 olds 350 motor. I've tried every way and if I rotate it away from the headers it hits the block and then obviously the other way it hits the header so then I mounted my original starter from my old 260 thinking it was my headers problem but no it clears with a inch left to give I don't understand it and this one is a mini inline starter should clear it all. Very disappointed ...read more

I worked after headache and shimming.

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

I would have given it a -1 star after I installed it and found that the pinion was barely hitting my ring gear and no amount if shims would remedy. I threw in the towel, prepared this stater for return and bought the Powermaster listed below. That unfortunately did the same thing, only worse. It was already internally shimmed and could not be shimmed more than it was. I got an idea to internally shim the Summit starter like the PM was. I made an 1/8" shim to fit behind the billet mounting block to push the starter back from the ring gear. This worked great and the PM starter is going back. Poncho 400. ...read more

Perfect replacement

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

Wires are on the right side and holes line up perfect for the olds 455. I was kinda worried about what I read for reviews in this but the starter works and is perfect on my olds 455 jet boat.
