A great way to unclutter your engine compartment is to bolt on one of our Summit® chrome one-wire alternators. Thanks to their internal, self-energizing voltage regulator, that one wire is all you see--well, that, and their shiny chrome plated case. What you won't see is that the alternators are brand new units (not remanufactured) and a fan and single groove pulley are included.

Great Alternator and Good Value for the money.

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

This is my 3rd alternator purchase. Alternator #1 was purchased in 11-2011 for a 1975 Cherried out Chevrolet Blazer....needed more amperage for the bright lights. The instructions said it could be wired as a 3 wire alternator, but that may have caused some issues. It ran well for about 3 years, then in mid 2014, it started making a loud screeching sound every time you turned on the headlights or heater & wipers, etc. Also the voltage & current would drop off. At first the problem was intermittent, but it gradually became worse. Worked OK with radio and ignition only requirements. Perhaps the method I employed to wire it caused the internal voltage regulator to fail (although I don't know why that would make the screeching sound). Also after 3 years, the chrome started to flake off and looked pretty bad. I have recently replaced it with a similar unit purchase #3. We shall see how it fares serving as a "one wire" alternator hookup. Alternator purchase #2 went on my 1968 Corvette about one month ago to accommodate the brighter after market headlights. Works great so far supplying adequate Amperage and Voltage that the stock unit did not provide. The big block 427 does not see much past 6,500 rpm now and then so the unit should be okay. I plan to purchase one for my 1965 highly customized Ford Mustang......based upon my review of the instruction manual, I may make use of a larger pulley, as the 302 with Big heads routinely sees 7,000 to 7,500 rpm at Laguna Seca and the instruction manual indicates that 6,000 rpm should be the maximum for this alternator unit. (Perhaps a brief excursion into the 7K to 8K range won't hurt it......we will see). If the chrome starts flaking off of the 2nd and 3rd purchase units, it would be better to purchase the same unit without the chrome plating and save the additional $$. Again, Purchase #2 and #3 were made toward the end of 2014, so we will see how they hold up. I should probably hold a full 5 stars in abeyance pending road testing over the next several years, but, overall, this appears to be a really good unit. ...read more
