Too low, not secure

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

I had to fabricate spacers from 7/16 steel to make these fit my '77 Nova securely. Without the spacers, there was little compression of the rubber pads, and the center-bolt of the springs didn't protrude through the locating holes in the axle brackets. The first two times I installed my springs, the axle slid rearward on the springs when I applied the brakes. I dented the transverse muffler, and the tires rubbed on the rear of the wheel opening of the fenders. Once I built the spacers so that these springs (which have four leaves, and are about 1.2 inches thick) were effectively as thick as the original 6-leaf springs at 1.65 inches thick, the springs have been secure in the spring brackets of the axle. Now that the springs are installed and secure, I find that they only raised the rear of the vehicle one inch compared to the two broken original springs. Two inches was what I was expecting--and what it would take to make the car level with the original front springs. ...read more

Good Product

These were purchased to replace a broken spring on an 81 Camaro. They seemed like good quality and fit really well.
