Awesome Help for Springs w/ 300,000+ Miles

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

Over the past 14 years and 300k+ miles, the springs on our Excursion have started to sag. Ride quality was still pretty good, empty, but with a trailer on the ball and 8 people inside it was beyond "soft" due to the aging factory springs. I've used the RAS system on our 1500 Suburbans, before we got the Ex, and knew that they really helped the weaker chassis. I wasn't sure the RAS would help the Ex, but this attempt was much cheaper (less than half the cost of parts alone) than replacing the leaf springs. It actually took longer to get the Ex up on jack stands, tires off, and axle lowered into position than it took to install the Roadmaster Active Suspension. The RAS springs brought the rear of the Ex back up to original ride height. We even went back to the draw bar we originally used to pull the trailer, keeping it level, as the current draw bar now had the nose of the trailer up quite a bit. A week later we left on a 1400 mile round trip to Chicago and the Ex gave us confidence once again that she was able to pull a big trailer and handle a heavy load inside the cab. The front end of the Ex feels 'soft', so we'll have to do a leaf spring replacement on that end. But if Roadmaster offered something for the front, we'd definitely be going that route. more
