With their gear-reduction drives, heavy-duty PowerMaster Mastertorque starters really crank out the power--180 ft.-lbs. of torque. So they can handle engines with compression ratios as high as 12.0:1. If your stock starter clears your oil pan, they will, too. Some will also clear kicked-out pans. These starters can be mounted in multiple orientations, and some will work inverted, with the solenoid down. Select models are available in a chrome plated finish.

9600 Series Starters

The starter would not fit correctly. The space between the pinion and fly wheel were too far out and there was no amount of shims to adjust to bring it closer. I tried it on 3 BBC's same results it was not machined correctly from the factory.

It cranks my 10.5:1 compression 512 cubic inch engine over when HOT no problem. It doesn't even struggle. This thing is on steroids, and it looks great too. I should have contacted the manufacturer but I didn't. Im pretty sure my mounting block on this starter was a bad part. I had to mill off 1/8" to get it to engage the ring gear. I destroyed my SFI flexplate because of this. Everyone else I've talked to has said they never had to do that, it was always pull out of the box and perfect clearance for them. But not for me!
