The sockets enable you to rotate the crankshaft in the proper direction when the balancer is off, making your engine assembly much quicker and easier.

Poor design/wrong material

The two-part design and aluminum construction allows for undesirable movement between the two parts causing inaccurate readings when used with a degree wheel. If the tool were made of steel I think the design would be okay.

NOT Recommended!!!

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

The only reason I give it one star vs. none is because it has the provision to install, turn and tighten a degree wheel, though I never got to that stage before this thing self-distructed. The aluminum body is only about 3/16" thick, the set screw they use to snug things up has a brass tip (which is a good thing), but it sticks out past the end of the set screw by 1/8", leaving only about 2 aluminum threads in the body for the set screw to grab. As soon as you attempt to snug the set screw up, which will be required because the slot they cut to accept the crankshaft key is cut too wide, you will pull the threads out of the body, rendering the set screw useless. The overall inside diameter of the body is also too big for a snug fit on the crank, again requiring a "good" set screw setup, which it does not have. I would not recommend this to anyone. Spend a few bucks more and get a "steel" crank socket. I sent the Pro-Form back. Summit was very understanding and covered the return shipping. ...read more

crank socket

keyway slot to wide so the one set screw won't hold the socket in place-impossible to degree a cam when socket moves 2 degrees or more, just drilled and tapped two more holes for set screws to see if three will hold socket in place. This is why it has a cheap price- it's a cheap piece-wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
