Replace your slow, unreliable vacuum or electric front axle engagement system with one of these 4x4 Posi-Lok cable activated systems. The Posi-Lok systems give you direct control of your front axle right from your cab, so they will engage every time. They have a short 1 in. throw to make shifting on the fly easy, and as an added bonus, a 2WD low range to give you the rear-wheel torque of 4-LO, and the bind-free steering action of 2-HI.

Installed on 1994 Chevrolet Suburban 2500. Had problems with the electric actuator intermittently working over the past 2 winters. This truck probably had the actuator that heated up and expanded to engage the 4WD when it was new and converted to the electric actuator when the original one failed. I believe conversion to electric was easy, just buy the actuator from GM and wire harness from Dorman. I think my problem was electrical and I didn't want to go through the expense and time of repairing it and maybe it would reoccur so I ordered the Posi-Lok. Installation was easy. Make sure the angles are right when installing the bracket on frame that holds pivot lever pin. Also cable and rod must be adjusted carefully to make sure 4WD is fully engaged. Truck needed to roll abit while someone manually with a pry bar or screw driver pushed on rod with U fork into housing to fully engage 4WD then adjust cable at this point as engaged. Also if replacing the electric actuator I can tell you that if you bridge the purple and light blue wires in the harness going to the actuator the 4WD indicator light (on the floor in front of lever on 1994) will illuminate when 4WD is properly engaged. This is important because the light will go on only when front axles are fully locked. Oddly when I spoke to the tech support at Posi-Lok they told me that the Posi-Lok system is only intended to replace the actuators that heat up not the electric ones and they know nothing about the indicator light working. I was surprised and disappointed at such lack of knowledge of the 4WD system as a whole. It seemed that they had no field experience with 4WD use. Anyway, now going into first winter with the Posi-Lok and I feel confident that the 4WD will work on demand. ...read more

Works Great

This works great in my 1990 K2500, took a couple of hours to install working on the ground, a set of ramps or jack stands would make it much easier. Instructions are pretty good. Only thing I didn't like was the price, $160.00 seems high to me for what you get, but it does what it's supposed to, so it's up to you. I would buy it again.
