The Posi-Lok systems give you direct control of your front axle right from your cab, so they will engage every time. They have a short 1 in. throw to make shifting on the fly easy, and as an added bonus, a 2WD low range to give you the rear-wheel torque of 4-LO, and the bind-free steering action of 2-HI.

Poor quality control?

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

1) Installing the mounting bracket as directed resulted in the engagement button being directly inline with the throttle petal. My size 12 boots were within a couple of inches of cable. My son’s size 13 boots were even closer. Going thru firewall as directed put cable into the fuel filter on Cummins motor. Solution was to fab our own bracket. 2) Step 20 describes threading a “ 7/16” jam nut on to the end of the cable” Jam nut was a 7/16” but the cable end was a 12mm x 1.5 thread ?? As were the threads in the housing. Cable and housing matched perfectly. Jam nut required trip to NAPA. Frustrating when truck is mid install. 3) “Step 23 Thread cable into housing about half an inch …” If we threaded the cable back out of the housing until the button closed flush we only had about two threads in the housing. Threading them in “about a half an inch” resulted in the button having an ugly gap, appearing not to close all the way for the majority of the time when the truck is in 2wd. If there was a solution it was not included in the instructions. I chose to fully engage cable threads in housing and leave the gap behind the button. Works well, looks trashy. Parts seem to be of sufficient quality. Getting them to work well together was frustrating. Poor quality control??? ...read more

it.. it.... just feels good man

So after doing some research as to why my front axle would not engage found, out the vacuum lines for my front CAD had been cut and plugged by the previous owner. So instead of replacing the lines (that would dry rot in a year or so in the Arizona heat) I went with the sure thing. Only giving four stars due to haven't tried using my 4x4 yet.

4x4 Posi-Lok 1996 Dodge Ram 1500

Of course my original vacuum system was starting to act up so decided on this option. What a difference - positive and right now engagement. This is the only way to go. Be sure and replace the shift fork also - why not - your already in there. Easy to install and well made product. Be sure you get the 4x4 Posi-Lok brand like Summit sells. There are a few cheap imitations out there and they are not worth the "savings". ...read more

This is a great option to eliminate the vacuum control. Pretty easy to install, control mounts under dash and maybe difficult for some to reach but certainly no major issue. You can feel it engage which is a definite advantage.
