Upgrade from your stock coil to something with more wallop--like a PerTronix Flame-Thrower. Flame-Thrower coils deliver more than 40,000 V of spark energy to your plugs for fuller, more complete combustion. They're available in both 1.5 ohm and 3.0 ohm versions, with either oil-filled canisters, which keep their low-resistance windings secure and cool for reliable long-term performance, or epoxy-filled canisters for extra vibration protection. Flame-Throwers are available in chrome or black (epoxy, black only).

This coil takes 12 volts! If you have points, you should have 6 volts. 6 volts will cause missfire and weak spark. I checked mine and had 12; I should have known! Sometimes it ran good, sometimes bad. When I caught it with only 6 volts to the coil, I ran a new 12v wire from the key to the coil. All is well with the world and it fires great. With the higher spark voltage, you may need to replace your plug wires to keep them from arcing and causing an intermittent miss. ...read more
