Thin head gasket by GM - iron or aluminum heads

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

Originally for new factory engines. Strictly 4.0" bore, no oversize possible without burning fire ring. GM makes a 4.100" for that. Great for head re & re on stock engines but perfect on small bore 265, 283, 305, 307 when using heads from 327, 350, or 400. Putting L98's on a 305? This works by staying out of the combustion chamber.

I suggest you don't use on a 4.030" bore

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

Well, I thought I had used this gasket before on a 4.030" bore, so I ignored Summit's description stating it is not for use on bores larger than 4.000". But the description is correct. While the gasket bore is actually appoximately 4.050", it's not perfectly concentric around the cylinder bore when pressed on the dowel pins. This places the valley side of the gasket's firing ring VERY close to the cylinder bore. I think I'll return these and order GM 14096405. It's the same .028" compressed thickness, but is listed as having a 4.100" bore. It's also stainless steel /graphite, probably a better gasket than the 10105117 composition gasket. ...read more
