Not good to go

These do not work well for my Ranger 2WD, 5.0L swap. The right header is very close to the frame rail and the exhaust pipe mating to the unmodified passenger side header collector interferes with the passenger side twin I-beam suspension. This looks like it can be corrected by modifying the header collector when building the exhaust, I expected this from internet forums. The drivers side header had hard interference with the steering column intermediate shaft (number 6 tube), and that was unexpected. The summit online catalog calls out a required engine mount kit for these headers, and maybe those would move the engine high enough in the chassis to solve these header clearance issues, but I'd worried about hood clearance for an EFI set up. I did not buy that engine mount kit because mounting the engine to the plates, cantilevered off the frame cross member, seems to be asking for trouble in terms of fatigue cracking over time. Not too comfortable about slotted holes either. I'm using an old set of Kaufmann engine mounts which more securely mount the motor and do not interfere with these headers. Figure "additional application engineering required" to use these headers I think. The price was great, the quality is good on the ones I received and they were packed very well in the shipping box. more
