Diesel RX Glow Plug installation and results

Computer in my 2008 Duramax said there was a problem with #4 glow plug circuit. While on-line videos went into a half dozen possible problems from the glow plug itself, to wiring problems, to computer failure - the price of the glow plug was just too reasonable to not start there. I'd say that #4 glow plug is the toughest to get to because of the steering shaft. We ended up cutting about 3/4" of an inch off a 1/4" drive deep socket to clear the shaft. larger drive sockets just made the lack of room worse. Once we shortened the socket it and the socket wrench fit right in the tight quarters, and the glow plug came right out. New one went in easily and we cleared the code - we've logged about 400 miles since the repair and the problem is solved. ...read more
