Curt Hitch on 04 Toyota Highlander

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

Very strong hitch. Easy to install. Replaced same type due to severe rust and paint peeling. I have road salt in this area. Suggest grease on receiver to prevent salt corrosion resulting in difficult installation of hitch when exposed to road salt. Gave four stars due to corrosion over time.

Only problem is spare tire interference

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

I installed this hitch on a 2005 Toyota Highlander. The bolt holes all lined up perfectly, and the fit to the unibody was spot on. You'll need a torque wrench to torque the bolts, and I highly recommend a tap to chase the rust out of the two holes that don't normally have a bolt in them. I was able to install it myself by setting the hitch on the carton in which it came to raise it, then adding some shorter height stuff under one end to raise it a little more. I then went to the opposite side, lifted it into position with one hand, and started a bolt. Then I went back to the other side, started a bolt; then added the remaining four. There is one problem. The 2005 Highlander stows the spare tire under the chassis. The installed hitch interferes with the ability to lower and raise the spare tire. It can be done, but you need to manipulate the tire away from the hitch. If it weren't for this issue, I would have rated it five stars. ...read more

I had never installed a hitch before. This installation was straightforward, and the hitch looks great.
