True bolt-on conversion

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

This kit was a true bolt-on conversion from manual steering to power steering on my 1967 Mercury Cougar. I did have to shorten the steering column cover by 1" and had to add 1" to the vertical portion of Z-bar for my 3-speed manual transmission to work, but both of those were discussed in the literature and other research. The entire conversion (even with the basic modifications took about 5 hours and that was with the engine and transmission left in the car. Highly recommend this kit for anyone looking to get aware from manual steering on their original series Mustang or Cougar! ...read more

great upgrade

Yes, it's pricey but the kit is very complete and really well made. One of the best upgrades I've put on the car. Really a necessity if you have wide radials. This isn't just a pure bolt in: 1) You're going to have to shorten the column tube to make room for the box and rag joint. They give you everything you will need to finish it off so it's looks fine when you're done. 2) If you only have a single groove pulley drive, no surprise you're going to have to upgrade to dual groove. 3) Also, my car has a manual and when I finished the power steering and went to reinstall the clutch linkage I found I had to modify it to clear the much larger box and lines. basically cut the lever and weld in a wedge to move the top back ~3" and up an inch. Also had to shorten the pedal push rod the 3". That's really not something Borgeson can help you with, depending how your car is equipped, you just may have to make other mods. ...read more

Quality parts, straight forward installation

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

This kit arrived very quickly after ordering (as usual). The installation was very straight forward and easy I had the engine out of the car, but it would have installed easily anyway. High quality parts and much better than the old style stock Ford power steering.
