The bar is made from high-carbon steel and is hardened and stress-relieved to give your suspension superior support during sudden or sharp turns. Most kits include 12-gauge zinc chromate plated brackets with fully enclosed bushings and heat-treated end link bolts for added strength.

1964 Impala Addco Sway Bar

I thought I would take a few minutes to review this because certain information would have been very beneficial to me. First, if you have made it this far you know that Addco is the most economical option for sway bar addition. I decided on it primarily because it came with the tabs to attach to the lower control arms; mine did not have a factory sway bar. The instructions are marginal at best. The assumption is made that you are fully aware of things such as proper angles, clearance issues, mounting, etc. Contrary to other web comments, you can work the bar into place without removing the pitman arm or any other steering components. It took a while but it is possible. I have a Borgeson power steering upgrade and I was prepared for the clearance issue with the steering box thanks to the directions that came from Borgeson. What I was not prepared for was the clearance issues with the pitman arm. Be prepared to grind the bar or the top of the pitman arm for clearance. A major consideration is bar alignment and clearance on the end link/lower control arm connection. This varies depending on how much you have lowered your front end. Because my car didn't have a factory sway bar, I was able to adjust the mounting location of the end link up or down to accommodate the car. You will not have this luxury if you have factory mounts so be prepared to shop for different end links in order to maintain proper sway bar geometry. Also, the supplied cradle U bolts only work on one side. For the driver's side you will need regular bolts. THIS IS NOT A BOLT ON AND GO ITEM!!! That being said, after some careful tweaking and adjusting, the final installation is not bad and it actually has performed well for the money so far. Good luck! ...read more
