You can get up to 50 percent more starting power when you pick one of these Summit® high-torque mini starters. They're 40 percent lighter, as well as 1/3 smaller. That latter characteristic translates into increased ground, oil pan, and header clearance, but both factors can be equally important in a race car. So can features such as full ball-bearing construction, which allows these starters to work great while lasting a long time.

Mini starter for header install.

I bought the 829100 mini starter for a Hedman header install on my 1987 Corvette. The install was very simple with no need to lengthen the battery cable. But the starter only lasted 2 days! The starter motor would continue to run after starting the engine and it would sometimes run by itself! Summit replaced it very quickly and the replacement is working fine! Out of the box the 3 screws for the nose cone were stripped out, chased threads installed longer bolts Cranked over good but stays in flywheel 3-4 seconds after starting engine, Called summit and ordered #2 2nd starter did same thing. If you read instructions they show on back a diagram for a ford solenoid on a chevy which on mine was not wired correctly, changed wiring to match summit instruction sheet and problem went away, starter is working fine now but does struggle when the 455 BB is hot. ...read more

It took to many slims to meet teeth on flexplate. and it set to far back on engine for it to engage fully into the teeth. it would only go half-way into flexplate and was tearing up my flexplate. I had to replace my flexplate as a results. The bolts were not straight and when putting in sims it would change nearness with bolt.
