Mini starter for header install.

I bought the 829100 mini starter for a Hedman header install on my 1987 Corvette. The install was very simple with no need to lengthen the battery cable. But the starter only lasted 2 days! The starter motor would continue to run after starting the engine and it would sometimes run by itself! Summit replaced it very quickly and the replacement is working fine! This starter would have been a nice addition to my car. However after following the instructions, the result was no go. 1st, the pinion was too far from the flywheel (over .250"- instructions says .100+/- .040"), with no way to adjust. 2nd, when solenoid was operated, the pinion would not pull in to the ring gear. It had interference with the flywheel. Adding the shim did not improve the situation. You would think design for a standard SBC would be OK. ...read more
