Nice quality for the price

I chose to replace my cracked factory vortec heads with these and I am not disappointed. The castings are extremely good quality, stainless steel valves, screw-in rocker studs. When I dropped them off at my machine shop they were so impressed they went and bought another pair for a different build they were doing. Just a few things that I noticed on the heads though I want to point out. 1) they install umbrella style valve seals which for a street motor are not very good so I would recommend replacing them with the positive seal style ones. 2) whatever they finish the head gasket mating surface with isn't all that good so I had mine resurfaced for peace of mind. 3) they have the summit racing logo engrave on both ends of them. I find this sort of obnoxious, but does affect their function. Overall an excellent product. Update: I've now had experience with two sets of these heads and can say now that resurfacing them is an absolute must. We found major defects in all 4 heads after the first pass. It's not a deal killer because these are still a great deal, but I absolutely would not run these with out resurfacing otherwise they'll probably leak like a sieve. ...read more

Can't beat these heads for the dough...

Bought these to put in my 2001 5.7 vortec mercruiser after I had discovered a bad head/ running on 7 out of 8 cylinders. Chose these because of stainless valves and rumors that they are USA made by a high quality manufacturer. These came in looking beautiful! Painted up with high heat rattle can and they fit on an edelbrock performer (marinized)manifold perfectly. Switched from 2 barrel mercarb to edelbrock 1409. This thing sounds like a total hotrod now. Only thing to pay attention to (that I did not catch) is the spring rates of the valve springs. If you are using an aggressive cam/ high revving engine combo then you may need to upgrade to beehive springs due to the low seat pressure of the stock springs. I am using these on a roller motor but apparently they are set up for flat tappet. Awesome product. ...read more

Very nice quality heads cast and assembled in the USA. I chose these over the GM vortec heads because the decks are thicker and less prone to cracking like the GM vortec heads. My only two complaints are the intake runners are shaped oddly and not really true vortec heads although not very far off. My second complaint is that they have the "Summit Racing" logo engraved on both sides and I really wish it didn't. It looks super tacky.
