This pump is designed for use with carbureted fuel systems. A Race Pumps fuel pressure regulator is required with this pump. This pump also includes an optional -8AN inlet fitting. If using this pump with E85, Teflon lined hose and coated fittings must be used.

Race Pumps fuel pumps operate on a principle similar to a master cylinder, but with an ingenious floating O-ring valve function that continually adjusts to the amount of fuel needed by the engine. This is how Race Pumps fuel pumps can be used on any engine from 200-2,500 hp. Race Pumps' variable-stroke piston actually pumps less or more fuel as needed. Because of this variable flow, it doesn't need a bypass-type regulator or return line like traditional constant-pressure pumps do. Race Pumps fuel pumps' higher efficiency and variable flow mean that they don't have to work as hard as other pumps and don't add heat to the fuel like conventional diaphragm pumps. Race Pumps fuel pumps also consume less horsepower. The fuel pumps for carbureted engines require only 25 lbs. of pushrod pressure, compared to 125 lbs. of pressure for diaphragm pumps.
You probably don't need the pressure and volume that Race Pumps fuel pumps can supply, but the extra capacity ensures that your engine will not stumble at the end of a straight because of fuel starvation. Regulators function more smoothly and consistently with the added pressure and flow. With a smoother supply of fuel, a Circle Track car will feel more predictable and pick up more smoothly out of the corners. The design also makes it easier to run fuel lines and the pump and fittings are less vulnerable in a crash. On top of all of that, Race Pumps fuel pumps just look cool!
Valveless, Variable Displacement, Reciprocating Piston Fuel Pump
