These Ratech pinion depth setting tools give you accurate pinion depth settings in five easy steps. Just set the tool on top of the pinion head with its slot end in the carrier bearing journal and then insert a dial caliper in the slot. Position the depth rod so it touches the bottom of the carrier bearing bore, take the measurement from the caliper (sold separately), subtract that number from 3.25 in., and you have the correct pinion depth.

buy a real pinion tool

this tool will give 5 different measurments with each of 5 tries. Often differing by .020 or more. No method to insure that measurement is take from center line of the carrier bearing. Nice idea, but poorly executed. Save your money and buy a real tool that accurately centers in the carrier bearing.
