After going thru a bad swap meet stater I tried this model because it was the highest rated at the time. Super easy install no shims needed. I have an 11:1 502 and it starts easier than I ever would have thought.

Powermaster 9400 Starter

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

The Powermaster 9400 Ultra Torque Starter works great. Installed without issue between my Hooker Headers and 427 BB. Read reviews on the various starter options, including MSD and TCI, and determined that Powermaster seemed to be one of the more preferred options. I'm very happy with it. I've had no starting issues since and would recommend this to friends. ...read more

9400 starter

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

This is the third starter I have bought from power master brand. I have a high compression BBC chief motor. It was originally an injected/nitrous combo which by nature was tough on starter flywheels do to kick back with high compression. So removed injection went to gas set up to bracket race. Found the slower start of gas created a bigger issue. The extra time to start causes a deflection issue. Found that the initial clearance would move the starter out of gears of flywheel. Milled aluminum head to set gear deeper in flywheel. Maybe my block or fact it's a 10.2 not sure be careful if you break the pinion gear as there clutch drive set up can become weaken by one kick back and this will cause crazy start issue as clutch in gauges then as engine fires to start will act like kick back but it's not. This type starter is the best I've found for BBC engines in an open type car. Although I may switch to a 139 gear flywheel set up do to my compression but it still use the same starter motor with different pinion gear set up Good starter in all but I think it's rated compression is off a bit ...read more
