Godzilla Battery

Almost ten years ago (9/28/04), I purchased this Odyssey battery from Summit. I also purchased the matching polished aluminum battery tray in November of that year from Summit. I ran this battery in a '79 Camaro for three years and then abused it badly - using it until it was stone dead four or five times before recharging it. On one occasion, it sat completely dead for several months before I recharged it. After all of this, it would only come back to 50%, but I continued using it. Some five years back, I finally put it on a new AGM charger I had purchased, and managed to get it back to 80% after several days of charging - and I then swapped it into my '85 Trans Am with its 406 small block. Then, I bought a BatteryMINDER 12151. After installing the 12151 in the Trans Am, and keeping the power on the BatteryMINDER, I saw this well used and abused Odyssey battery return to an unbelievable 100% charge after a few weeks. Since then, I've always kept the charger on when the vehicle was not in use. Now, after almost fourteen years, this battery is finally showing its age - holding only 12.2 volts after leaving the BatteryMINDER 12151 off overnight. It still starts the car like a champ, but seeing it only holds 12.2 volts with the charger off, I figure it's probably about time for a new one. I'm actually wondering how long a new one will last if I don't abuse it and continue using my BatteryMINDER. Since I now keep a BatteryMINDER on everything, I've seen some unbelievable service numbers from all my vehicle batteries. When I buy my next PC1200MJT, I'm hoping for 16 years of use! I also like this battery because it is almost bullet proof with its steel jacket. It also never leaks and never has a corroded terminal. Get the battery specific Odyssey battery tray too - it's worth it. Mine still polishes back new with little effort. I do have the older style tray, and like it better than the new style. ...read more
