Not as easy as it seems

I bought this radiator because when I searched for a 1980 Chevy El Camino this came up as a good option. In the description it only said some modifications necessary but in reality there were drastic modifications that needed to be done. First off I needed to cut most of my existing radiator mount out because the size difference from this radiator to my original was huge. Not one part of this radiator fit like I thought it would. I put this radiator in my '72 Chevelle in mid 2011. Radiator now has three leaks in the tube to tank area that are un-repairable. I have always used distilled water with water wetter and a small percentage of antifreeze, car has run less than 3000 miles since I put in the radiator. Pretty disappointed with this product.

I was sceptical when ordering this radiator but figured I would give Griffin radiators a chance. Looks great, fit pretty well in my 1970 Chevelle SS with built 454. I have around 600 horses and the old copper thin core was not doing the job and tried flushing it and adding electric fans. It ran around 230 with the old radiator and now it has not got over 205 degrees. The radiator looks great and looks even better with some Mothers metal polish, shines right up. ...read more

Close but not quite a direct fit radiator.

Advertised as a direct fit for a 1970 (and others) Buick GS 455; but not quite true. The lower hose outlet is 1.75 inch but Buicks need 1.5 inch outlet so I had to force my lower hose onto the too large outlet. The petcock position could stand to be raised one inch higher. Otherwise this is a BIG if not HUGE radiator with very large tubes. Cools great and looks pretty good. I'll now have to monitor the condition of the lower hose since it is a little stressed. It would take very little effort for Griffin Thermal Products to make this into a TRUE direct fit application. ...read more
