Works as intended

I was degreeing TDC on my SB 350 and wanted a good timing indicator. This did the job very well but, I don't understand why the pointer on most of these doesn't reach further over the harmonic balancer. This is made for a 8" balancer and I'm using one from Summit. The pointer extends about 1/3 the distance over the balancer to timing marks. Making the pointer just a little longer would make seeing the correct timing that much easier. Using timing tape from MSD I was able to "move" the timing marks closer to the pointer. ...read more

TIMING POINTER

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

Billet timing pointer looks very good in appearance. Very well made, however when installed with my $100 8” Powerforce balancer the pointer had to be clearanced near the bolt head to clear the balancer. It wasn’t by much only about .005” but left alone it rubbed the paint right off the end of my new balancer. And the pointer is slightly crooked, I’m not sure if it was bent before install or after it rubbed but either way not a big deal, I would buy this part again. Only thing to note is that the pointer does not reach all the way across the balancer to the timing markings. It only reaches about half way across so I had to scribe my total timing for accuracy all the way across the balancer. Or you could purchase timing tape and make it right on. ...read more

A pointer truely usable with cast timing covers

Summit RacingSummit Racing Verified Purchase

A pointer truely usable with cast or billet timing covers. Only minor filing to match the casting radius was required to use with a cast cover. Anybody who has tried to use a sheet metal timing tab on a cast timing cover knows the extra thickness of these covers make the std pointer useless. This problem is solved by this product.
