Step-by-Step: Installing a Pro Comp Lift Kit on a Jeep Wrangler

Slide Show
When we needed some extra clearance to fit a set of 16 inch wheels and tires on a 1995 Jeep Wrangler, we didn’t have to look any further than Pro Comp and one of their 2 ½ inch lift kits.
The Pro Comp kit is a Stage One system, designed for vehicles that see highway and light to moderate off-road use. The Wrangler kit includes front and rear leaf springs, front and rear tracking rod brackets, ES3000 gas shocks, front sway bar extensions, transfer case and hardware. All you need to get are shock boots, which are also available from Pro Comp.
While we had the Wrangler’s suspension apart, they also installed Energy Suspension polyurethane sway bar and end link bushings to firm up the handling. Both the Pro Comp lift kit and the Energy Suspension bushings can be installed with basic hand tools, though air tools make the job a bunch easier. Four sturdy jackstands (one for each corner of the vehicle) are also strongly recommended. And don’t forget to take your Jeep in for a front end alignment, unless you like to wander across lanes of traffic for no reason.
So follow along and get an idea on how easy it really is to install a Pro Comp lift kit. A Saturday afternoon later, your Wrangler will have plenty of room for those big tires you’ve always wanted.
