Closer Look: Auto Meter Gauge Pods and Panels

Looking for a nice, neat way to mount gauges in your Fox-body Mustang? So were we—times two. We had an array of Auto Meter electrical gauges to install in not one, but two Mustang GTs.
Fortunately, Auto Meter had the mounting solutions we needed in the form of A-pillar mount Gauge Pods and vent-mount Gauge Cages. In a couple hours (not including wiring time) we had the new gauges installed in both cars, ready to keep us informed on engine performance. Auto Meter has Gauge Pods and Panels for late model Mustangs too, plus about a zillion other vehicles. Once you see how easy it is to install these things, you too can find a home for your orphan gauges.
Auto Meter Gauge Pods
Auto Meter has single- and dual-gauge A-pillar pods to install two-inch and 2 5⁄8-inch gauges in 1979-2002 Mustangs. The pods can be easily installed on the pillar with double sided tape, or screwed into the pillar cover (tape and screws are included with the pod). We installed a dual pod to mount 2 5/8-inch Auto Meter Sport-Comp electric water temperature and oil pressure gauges.
Auto Meter Gauge Cage
The Gauge Cage is available in two- and three-gauge versions. It mounts in place of the two center vents in 1979-93 Mustangs. If you keep the factory air conditioning, you can get a Gauge Cage with bypass vents to send the cold stuff out into the cockpit. Installing the cage requires a Phillips-head screwdriver, a 7/16-inch wrench, and an Allen wrench. Not only does the Gauge Cage give you a great way to install gauges, it looks factory-installed.
